One question we always get is, what’s the best way to know if my digital marketing campaign is working?
If you just focus on the Cost Per Lead (CPL), you’re focused on the amount of leads and how much it costs just to collect their information but not thinking about how changing a budget, offer, or the targeting can result in low quality leads.
Although CPL and many other metrics can be helpful in addressing where a campaign can use improvement, the most important number to look at is the Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC). The CAC shows the actual cost of turning leads into customers and gives a better idea of whether the campaign is making money.
Sometimes you’ll see a high CPL on Google & Facebook and think that the number is too high to justify any more ad spend and want to turn off the campaign. On average, we find that Google ads can have higher CPL’s but can still be more cost-effective because the lead quality is higher, which means the overall cost of getting new customers is lower.
